In Canada, there are many quirks and perks that make Canadians different from everybody else. Whether it is our unheralded generosity, or our ability to make the world's best bacon, Canadian's are quite a unique brand of people. Before, during, and after the 105th rendition of the Grey Cup there was a sense of pride, an aura that was given off that made each one of the six million viewers proud to be Canadian.
Shania Twain's Performance
Something about a Canadian country icon arriving to her performance on a dog-sled while being greeted by Royal Mounted Police that just rubs off a feel of Canadianity. Yes I said Canadianity. Also, when this country icon caps off her concert by saying "I feel like a Canadian.", a spin off of one of her greatest hits, one can't help but feel Canadian about the entire performance. Shania Twain's lore as being one of the most beloved Canadian musician's reach a new height this past Sunday evening and she had all tuning in feeling very proud of their Canadian heritage.
Canadian Football Showcased to the Very Best
For many fans of the football league south of the border, the Canadian Football League offers quite a breath of fresh air. No politics, just professional athletes competing and playing at a high level of football. Is it the football league with the best players in the world? Nope, but it proved this Sunday to be just as entertaining of a product as any. What was it that made the game phenomenal? It's imperfections. A late game fumble and interception stole the spotlight and was the lasting mark people felt from this weekend's classic.
You bust your back shovelling it, it makes you 15 minutes late for work, and it makes for awful driving conditions but my gosh there is something about a fresh snowfall that is just so Canadian. The snowfall pouring down as the Argonauts and Stampeders battled was what tied the entire night together. The image of Canada's football championship being decided in the ultimate Canadian elements made it the perfect evening.
When the game concluded, the Toronto Argonauts walked away as the 105th Grey Cup Champions after winning a game for the ages. The game was triumphant for one side, and heartbreaking for the other. Whether you were rooting for the Argonauts or the Stampeders, it can't be denied that the whole nation felt unified after a truly outstanding display of Canadianity.
