ABOUT THE SHOW

If history is any indication, sports broadcasting in Toronto is about to get a whole lot more interesting! Ever since these two appeared on local cable, back in the early 70’s, I knew that this partnership could go places. It took a lot of balls to do what they did: Two high-school, sports nuts, hosting a live call-in show on local cable….first of its kind (call-in sports show??) anywhere. Within two weeks, the crew required to run the show - answer the phones, screen calls, manage/operate cameras, produce and direct – doubled. The call-in segment was crazy-busy. Unbelievably successful: The highest audience of any cable program at the time. These guys enjoy an immensely strong bond that bridges their (almost) dichotomous personalities. Contrast is king, in my opinion: The key to any successful source of entertainment.

What’s the show all about? How will the “Naz & Wally Sports Hour flow, be different?

Cover all the relevant sports, professional and amateur, but always pay particular attention to the seasonal forerunners, and media touchstones that are top-of-mind, water-cooler topics. The NHL and NFL will be the key focus....but...we’re not scared to discuss the OHL draft in terms of Minor Midget prospects, World Cup Soccer, the Toronto Rock….or the odd walk down memory lane to reminisce about Lord Athol Layton and Maple Leaf Wrestling. You'll love it…love us for doing it

We also aim to maintain a strong sense of sports Nostalgia/Trivia in all our opinions, discussions, arguments, and predictions: If the past has taught us “another” thing, it’s that history is fun, interesting, engaging, fascinating, educational, and always repeating itself. Sidney Crosby’s opinion about salary caps and the changes in the game are one thing ….but….Claire Alexander’s (The Milkman) opinion would he far more entertaining and off the wall.

Let's face it,  sports isn’t just about box-scores, draft picks, playoffs, and locker-room jock-talk. It’s about memories, canny moments that entertained us, real opinions that mirror our inner “Joe box of doughnuts” feelings, and real humor…not precious, indie nonsense that only appeals to the ladies and gents inside the sound-booth!

We will also have In-studio,  and Call-in,  guests - with a twist, of course. We will be be unique. We want unique input…unique guests, with unique points of view. We hope to bring you the likes of: Russ Jackson, Pinball Clemons, Doug Gilmour, Bobby Orr, Paul Henderson, Eddie Shack, Jim Stillwagon, Dave Barr, Pat Coyle, Bobby Hull, Rob Ford (why not?), “Spider” Chuck Jones, George Chuvalo…Even Sweet Daddy Siki, and Tiger Jeet Singh!! That's right! Give us a listen. Send us your opinions and suggestions...we'll read them!
